Portfolios
Most students portfolios went home today! Any that did not, will go home tomorrow. Please take some time to go through them with your child and send them back when you have done so and completed the second page. They can come back this week, or after the break. Folders with class work will go home tomorrow. All work in the folder can stay at home. All work in the binder stays in the binder and comes back to school. If you notice N/A beside a question on a math assessment it is because the question was not counted on the assessment. If there are any questions about anything, please let me know.
Thank you to all the parents who came out to the craft afternoon and the sing along. I hope you had a wonderful time. We greatly appreciate the support and the volunteers. Thank you!
There will not be any homework assigned until after the Christmas break. I hope everyone has a wonderful holiday. Enjoy!

Portfolios
Wow, October is somehow almost over?? Portfolios went home today. We are just starting our portfolios so there is only one language and one math assessment inside. Please take some time to go over the work with your child and help them to complete the first page in the binder. Portfolios and the work inside will be returned to school once you have looked through them and signed the front page. A folder with class work went home today as well. The work in the folder is often group or pair work, so depending on who took what, some will bring home many things and others not so much! It was up to them to sort it out. The work from the folder stays at home. Students are asked to bring back the empty folder to use again.
Pictures were sent home today too! Instructions for ordering are provided in the package.
Scholastic book orders were also sent home and if anyone is buying books they are due back by next Friday, Oct 30.
If there are any questions, please contact me at the school. Thanks again for your continued support.

Homework!
Homework has started today and is to be completed by next Monday (Oct 5). The students are asked to complete the writing assignment, 2 books and comprehension questions on RAZ Kids and 30 minutes of DreamBox math. I will be checking in with students throughout the week to adjust their levels on RAZ kids if needed. All links can be found on the blog. We went through all parts of the homework together as a class, so students should be familiar with how to access the homework. If there are any questions regarding the homework, please let me know. Thank you.
The school code to use DreamBox on the iPad is bau5/stp .

Great First Week!
We had a great first week back to school and are starting to settle into our new schedule. A reminder to parents that we will be going to the Richmond Fair on Friday morning so please send in your child's permission form if you have not done so already. I will be contacting parent volunteers later this week to confirm plans. Thank you in advance. Dreambox and RAZ Kids are not up and running yet. As soon as our new class subscriptions are set up I will be sending student log-in information home. I anticipate it should be within the next 2 weeks. Danby's lunch order forms went home last week, if you did not receive one please send a note in your child's agenda. I hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and am looking forward to another great week at school.

Welcome to Grade 3!
Welcome back! I would like to welcome all returning and new students to our class and am anticipating a wonderful year ahead. Please check this blog regularly for classroom, homework and event updates. If you add your email in the box at the bottom right you can subscribe to the blog and will be emailed all new blog posts. Homework will be starting in the next couple weeks but I would encourage students to spend time reading, independently or to a parent/sibling, each night. There are also links provided on the blog to math practice sites. If parents have any questions, concerns or good news and would like to reach me, please send a note in your child's agenda or call the school. I am looking forward to the year ahead and would like to thank you in advance for your support in your child's learning!

'Twas the Night Before Summer
‘Twas the night before summer, and all through
the schools
Children
were dreaming of jumping in pools
School
bags were hung on their hooks with care
In
hopes that the school buses soon would be there
The
students are waiting for summer vacation
Everyone
bursting with anticipation
There
will be cottages, camping and all kinds of fun
Swimming,
laughing and soaking up sun
Play
outside often and read when you can
Be
sure to wear sunscreen when trying to tan
Practice
your times tables and take time to explore
When
you return you’ll be in grade four!
Be
kind to your friends, sisters and brothers
Be
sure to listen to your fathers and mothers
It
was a pleasure to teach you this school year
We’ve
made many memories I will always hold dear
The minute hand finally says 10 minutes to four
The minute hand finally says 10 minutes to four
The
students are ready to dash for the door
As the bell rings and you run out of sight
I wish you a summer that is cheerful and bright

EQAO is officially done! Everyone remained positive and enthusiastic throughout the duration of the testing and tried their very best. The Fun Fair and Talent Show were a great way to end the week and celebrate their hard work. Our class will be participating in the Swim to Survive program, which will take place on June 16th and 18th in the afternoon. A permission form and note outlining all of the details will be sent home early next week. I will also be looking for some male and female volunteers to accompany us to Entrance Pool on both of these dates. Our class is looking forward to a wonderful last month together! Have a great weekend!

'Twas the Night Before EQAO
'Twas
the night before EQAO, when all through the school
Mrs.
Brown’s students were keeping their cool
All
EQAO bags had been prepared with care
In
hope that the morning soon would be there
While
the students were nestled all snug in their beds
Visions
of word problems danced in their heads
Multiply
choice, long and short text
The
students are ready for what comes next
Our
pencils are sharpened and ready to go
Now
it is time to show what we know
This
week of testing will not make us pout
We
have our manipulatives to help us out
It
is time to work quietly and try our best
Soon
we will get a well-deserved rest
Bring
on the reading, writing and math
We
are prepared for whatever is put in our path
The tests will be collected and locked up so neat
Everyone
will cheer when EQAO is complete
Soon
we can celebrate and finally be loud
You
have all made Mrs. Brown very proud

Jump Rope for Heart
This Friday our students will be participating in Jump Rope for Heart! We will rotate through various jumping stations with the help of the grade 6 students and parent volunteers. We are asking that each student bring a water bottle for the day so we can limit entry into the school for water fountain drinks. Each student is making a heart which says who they are jumping for. These are hung in the entrance of the school on skipping ropes. It is sure to be a wonderful afternoon!

Happy Earth Day
"We've Got the Whole World in Our Hands"
Happy Earth Day! Today we had the chance to celebrate our earth and discuss how our actions impact our environment. As a class we came to the conclusion that it is up to us to protect and save our beautiful planet. Each student made a pledge to the earth that they believe will improve our world and that they can do all year long. Be sure to ask your child what pledge they made! Have a wonderful long weekend!
