Student Presentation

Students came home with a small reading to practise today. They have been researching Catholic faith symbols this month as part of our religion focus which started with Mass earlier in October. To end the month our class and Ms.Radzikowska's class will be giving a short presentation to the school about what the Grade 3 students have learned regarding faith symbols. The presentation will be Monday afternoon at 1:50 pm and should last around 15 minutes if any parents are interested in attending. The highlighted portion of the reading is what your child is asked to practise for Monday, we have practised at school and they are doing a great job. Some students were not completely comfortable with the idea of reading in front of the school which is totally understandable. They have been given one or two short sentences to practise and IF they feel up to it on Monday, they can read their part. If they don't feel comfortable on Monday, they have a partner, or another student, who is ready to read. I don't want anyone to spend the weekend worried about it! The Grade 3's have worked very hard researching their symbol and we are looking forward to a great presentation showcasing their hard work!

Homework

Homework starts today! All students have shown me where the homework is located on the blog so they should be able to show you as well! Students have 1 week to complete the reading, writing and math portion of the homework. Reading is RAZ kids, 1-2 books and the questions that go with the book. Writing is the weekly assigned writing task, math is Dreambox for 30 minutes during the week. Please assist your child with typing as much as you need to. If any RAZ Kids levels need to be changed, please put a note in your child's agenda. Any questions, please let me know. Thank you!

Upper Canada Volunteers, EQAO testing dates

We do not have final numbers available for the trip yet so we cannot confirm our volunteer numbers. Monday we will confirm. If you did not pay online for the trip, online payment is closed. You can send cash on Monday. If you require financial assistance for this trip, please do not hesitate to let me know and arrangements will be made. Again, all volunteers are more than welcome to attend, however, you might need to pay for your ticket. If you need to know more information about volunteering before Monday (for work, etc.) please email me at sara.hiscoe@ocsb.ca and I will get back to you over the weekend.

EQAO testing dates: our plan is to test the afternoons of May 25, 26, 29 and 30th. As well as the afternoons of June 1st and 2nd. Catch up days, if required for individual students, are June 3 and June 6. If possible, please avoid booking appointments etc. during these dates. Thank you for your understanding. If there are any questions please contact me at school.

Thanks, have a great weekend and Happy Mother's Day!

EQAO and Upper Canada Volunteers

Our Upper Canada trip is coming up next week and I want to thank everyone who has volunteered to join us so far! We receive a certain number of free passes for volunteers and those will be chosen randomly (names in a hat). IF your name is not picked, you are still more than welcome to join us that day but you will need to pay for your admission. We will be sorting out our numbers on Thursday once all forms have been returned and drawing volunteer names then. I will send notes home in agendas on Friday May12th regarding volunteers. Thank you again for your support.

EQAO is also fast approaching. Math review pages were sent home last week and will continue to be sent home as homework for the time being. The language writing homework is on hold for now, as I prefer the students to be reviewing math concepts at this time. Reading should continue, but if you are finding the math to be overly time consuming then please just focus on that.

EQAO spans over 2 weeks but we do not test everyday. Once our dates are confirmed we will send that information home, it will be soon. If there are any questions please do not hesitate to contact me.

Thank you.

Permission Form

Dear Parents,
I am sending home a new permission form for the Upper Canada field trip. The one sent home yesterday did not have both parts of the form photocopied. I apologize for the mix up. Also, I understand that this is a busy time of year for school trips and it can be costly to families. If any financial assistance is needed for this trip please do not hesitate to contact me. Thank you.

Wednesday
EAT green - today is our regular Boomerang lunch day.  Bring your trash back home, or try to pack a litterless lunch using reusable or recyclable containers
Thursday
WEAR green - show you care about your school by wearing a green shirt
Friday
ACT green - pledge to make one small change to help the Earth.  Post it on our Green Team bulletin board or in your class.

Thursday 9 February 2017

Library, Jersey Day, Science Volunteers, Portfolios, Report Cards, Interviews

Tomorrow is Jersey Day at St.Philip, students are invited to wear their favourite jersey to school!

We will also be going to the library, so if students could return their library books tomorrow, that would be appreciated. I forgot to remind the class today, so if books don't make it back, that's ok - they can be returned on Monday.

Also, it has been a bit of a mixed up week with the snow day so we will not be doing homework this week. There will not be new writing homework but if they students are really bored they are more than welcome to work on Dreambox and RAZ Kids!

Portfolios will be going home on Friday (Feb 10). Please take some time to go through the work with your children and ask them questions about it. Please sign the front page of the portfolio before returning it.

Report cards are going home on Tuesday Feb 14. Interviews will be held on Thursday Feb 16, 4-8 pm. ALL parents are encouraged to sign up for an interview. If a phone interview on a different date is more convenient, that is not a problem, please send me a note. I look forward to seeing everyone.
