Portfolios

Portfolios went home on Friday, however not all students had received their math quiz.  The remaining students received their quiz today which is why their portfolio is coming home again!  Please review and discuss the descriptive feedback given in math and language with your child. Thank you for your continued support.

Christmas Countdown..

As usual, November has flown by and we are working towards completing tasks and units before Christmas break. It is a busy time! Since yesterday was a snow day, homework will be sent home on Wednesday December 12. This will be the last homework sent home until the new year. Wednesday is also the last day to send in donations for the food bank and Shepherd's of Good Hope.  A big thank you for all the items sent in, we have a very generous contribution.
As a class we are looking at descriptive feedback and learning how to apply it effectively to our work.  The students have reviewed their feedback to date, and have set specific goals according to their feedback.  Portfolios will be sent home on Friday December 14 and I encourage parents to go over the work, feedback and goals with their children.  The end goal is for the students to use the descriptive feedback independently to improve their work.
The Christmas Sing-Along is Friday December 21, starting at 1:45 pm and all parents are invited to join!  We will be singing 'Someday at Christmas' - the Jack Johnson version.
I would like to wish everyone a safe, peaceful and happy Christmas and all the best in the upcoming new year.

Upcoming in our school...

Thank you to all the parents for making time for an interview. Please continue to be in contact if you have any questions or concerns. Our school will be collecting donations for the Richmond Food Bank, as well as Shepherds of Good Hope. We will are hoping to fill a box for each organization in our classroom. If you are able to donate, we are collecting non-perishable food items for the food bank and any of the items listed below for Shepherds of Good Hope.
  • hats
  • mitts
  • socks
  • toothpaste
  • toothbrushes
  • soap
  • shampoo
  • towels
  • razors
  • shaving cream
Please remember that students are not required to bring in items, please only donate what is possible. Also, the dollar store is an excellent place to find many of these items!
A reminder that the book fair starts on Wednesday November 28 and we will be visiting as a class on that day.  If any students want to 'window shop' the first day, there is another time for them to go quickly on Friday as well, but popular items do sell out fast!

November 5

Just a quick note to remind parents that interviews for my class will be held Wednesday November 14, not Thursday November 8.  If there was any confusion regarding this, or schedule problems, please let me know. Student portfolios, including their math quiz and latest writing samples will be sent home on Friday November 9.  I will be contacting parents next week to set up a classroom volunteer schedule, thank you in advance for your time. As usual, if you have any questions or concerns, please contact me through the student agenda or by phoning the school. Thank you!

October 17 - November 1

I would like to welcome Ms.Harrington to our class while I am away. I will be back November 1. Thank you to all the parents who have donated boxes of tissue.  I think we are well stocked for the winter and cold season ahead! Thank you very much. The Grade 4's will be continuing the patterning unit, as well as working on some multiplication, until the end of the month. We will have our patterning quiz on Friday November 2. A review will be sent home as math homework on Tuesday October 30.  Today I sent home 2 weeks of homework, so it does not have to be done all at once! They can complete the first reading comprehension story as well as half of the patterning page (it is lengthy) and 1 multiplication page for this week. Students can complete the remaining homework the week after. They will continue working on descriptive writing - comparing and contrasting- until the end of the month as well. I am planning to send home portfolios again on November 9th.  I will also be starting volunteer programs in the class in November, so I will be in touch with the parents who have offered to volunteer once I return. I wanted to point out the math manipulatives website that I posted.  It's an excellent resource for working on math homework, or reviewing math at home.  There are base ten blocks, counters, number lines, fraction parts - lots of useful tools, check it out!
