Postcards

Our class received postcards from the City of Ottawa to send out and invite someone to visit Ottawa in 2017, the 150th Birthday of Ottawa. Student's spent time researching the activities and events that will be taking place in Ottawa next year. They have written their postcards and now we need names and addresses to send them out! If you could send in a complete address, with postal code, and name of the recipient, preferably someone who does not live in Ottawa, it would be greatly appreciated. The postcards are pre-stamped, so no postage is needed. Thank you!

Also, quick reminder that Thursday afternoon is our craft day and Friday morning is our sing along. Student's are asked to bring in their signed portfolio when possible. Thanks.

Portfolios, Craft Afternoon, Sing-along

Portfolios: Portfolios are going home today. Please take some time to go through the work with your child. They have all been working very hard and it is evident in their success! There is also a folder with class work going home. The work in the folder is to stay at home, but please send the empty folder back. The work in the binder (portfolio) stays in the binder and is returned to school as well. If you have any questions, please let me know.

Craft Afternoon: All parents or grandparents who volunteered are invited to join us on Thursday afternoon. Please sign in at the office at 1 pm and I will meet you there at 1:05. If you did not return the volunteer form, but are able to join us, please do!

Sing - Along: The school sing along is Friday morning. Our class will be singing during Block 1, 9:30 - 10:30 am. It is also PJ day and students are invited to wear their favourite PJ's to school. Family is invited to attend the sing along in the gym.

Thank you for your continued support, if there are any questions please contact me at school. I hope everyone has a safe, relaxing and wonderful Christmas and holiday break, and best wishes for a happy New Year.

We are hoping for a great game!

Interviews

A quick reminder that interviews will be held in the Learning Commons (library), Thursday night, between 4 and 8 pm. If you have not signed up for an interview and wish to do so, there are still spots available. If you would like a phone interview on a different date, please send me a note.
Also, I have sent home a copy of the second page of the progress report for you to sign without having to cut the original copy. I apologize for copying the report back to back! If there are any questions, please let me know.
Thanks.

Portfolios

Portfolios went home today. There is a collection of work in the binder from the past 6 weeks (Math and Language). The math rubric is based more on the last 2 assessment pieces, the first two were tracking progress. Assessment in all subject areas is an ongoing process and evaluation is not only based on 'final tests' so over the year there will be an assortment of checklists, rubrics and descriptive feedback sent home, with and without a leveled mark. If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me.

Monday the students are invited to dress in orange and black for Halloween. Our trip to the Baxter Conservation Area is on Tuesday Nov 1, and so far the weather looks good! If possible, please send students with rubber boots if it is wet. Also, since it is that wet time of year, an extra pair of socks, mitts, and even pants, could be a good idea in the school bag.

A reminder that progress reports go home on Tuesday as well, and interviews are available to schedule now, for Thursday.  All parents are invited to schedule an interview in person or by phone. The link to interviews for myself and Mme.Seguin are listed below.

Thanks. Have a great weekend!

Open House

Open House Note  (Handout from Tuesday)

It was wonderful to meet so many parents last night! Thank you for coming. I didn't end up formally presenting, so I just wanted to note a few quick items.
 - Homework will start next week, Tuesday Sept. 27 and will be due the following Tuesday. All homework is online but if this is not possible, please let me know and other arrangements can be made.
- EQAO is at the end of May/beginning of June. We prepare for the testing all year so that the students are comfortable and familiar with the test format (multiple choice, short and long answer) as well as understand the common vocabulary used in the tests. Preparation is embedded into our regular classwork and coverage of the curriculum.
- Our new Smartboard projector will hopefully be arriving next week (or shortly thereafter).

If there are any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact me at the school. Thanks.

Whatever they bring tomorrow, they will need to carry with them, so a small backpack is suggested. Students are reminded to dress for the weather and to wear comfortable shoes for walking. We are looking forward to a great day!
